White Coat Ceremony Honors Southern Miss Audiology Doctoral Students

Five audiology doctoral students from the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at The University of Southern Mississippi recently received the prestigious white coat, signifying their transition from academic studies to clinical health sciences.

The white coat recipients include Amy Bishop of Picayune, Miss.; Noelle Dunbar of Sumrall, Miss.; Ashley Greening of Richmond Hill, Ga.; Catelin Powell of Germantown, Tenn.; and Mr. Matthew Walker of Columbia.

Southern Miss Children’s Center board member Langford honored

Donna Langford, co-chair of the board for The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi, has been recognized for her generosity and giving spirit with Mississippi’s 2013 Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award.

Langford is one of 14 Mississippians to receive the GIVE Award – Governor’s Initiative for Volunteer Excellence – presented by the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service. The recipients were honored during a luncheon in Jackson on April 22.

The first Pearl River Community College students to graduate from the Honors Institute were honored with a Medallion Ceremony on April 29.

Family and friends of Honors Institute students on both the Poplarville and Forrest County Center campuses were invited to commemorate their upcoming graduation on May 15.

“I want you to know how very proud we are of these students and what they’ve accomplished,” said PRCC President Dr. William Lewis. “These are the cream of the crop.”

Southern Miss, GE Aviation Partnership Shifting Into Higher Gear

The official opening of GE Aviation’s new plant in Ellisville, Miss., will mark a significant uptick in the partnership between the manufacturing giant and The University of Southern Mississippi.

On April 30 GE Aviation opens its new facility at the Howard Technology Park in Ellisville during an 11 a.m. ceremony that will include comments from Gov. Phil Bryant and GE Aviation President and CEO David Joyce. Several other dignitaries, including U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker and U.S. Rep. Steven Palazzo, are expected to attend.

Josh Holifield of Laurel, son of Dana and Connie Holifield, recently received The Randolph J. and Brenda H. Ross Award for Excellence in Anatomy given to a first-year medical student at William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, presented it to him during Honors Day Convocation on April 24. The award, established by Dr. Ross and his wife, is given to the medical student who has the highest Grade Point Average in anatomy.
