History student’s fellowship to focus on Missing American Soldiers

A history graduate student at The University of Southern Mississippi will soon be joining an elite team of researchers as they attempt to learn more about the fate of American soldiers from World War II missing in action in the South Pacific since the war ended in 1945.

Hanna Moore of Richton, a senior elementary education major at William Carey University, was recently named a 2013 Outstanding Teacher Intern by the Mississippi Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. During a ceremony at the Mississippi Department of Education building in Jackson, she was honored alongside other outstanding teacher interns and met Interim State Superintendent of Education Dr. Lynn House.

Spirit of Women and the Saenger Theater invite audiences to experience Menopause, The Musical – a hilarious musical parody that celebrates women and “the change!” Staged to classic tunes from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s, Menopause, The Musical will have the Saenger Theater busting with laughter on May 15 and 16.

This summer your child can learn to cook, be a scientist, explore the rain forest or go camping. The Early Connections Learning Center is holding six special summer camps for children ages 3 through 7, are Mondays through Thursdays each week of June and two weeks in July. Camps are $115 each, with a 10% discount for siblings.

WCUCOM student named Paul Ambrose scholar

Joshua Stake of Jacksonville, Fla., a second-year medical student at William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine’s, has been accepted as a 2013 Paul Ambrose Scholar. He was selected for this highly competitive and impressive award from among a national pool of medical students’ applicants with interests in public health and prevention (both MD and DO). As part of the program, Stake will attend a leadership symposium in Washington, D.C., June 20-23, and conduct a community-based health education project. Dr.

Southern Miss names Vinzant Vice President for Finance and Administration

Southern Miss names Vinzant Vice President for Finance and Administration

Longtime higher education administrator Dr. Douglas Vinzant has been named the new Vice President for Finance and Administration at The University of Southern Mississippi. Pending IHL Board approval, Vinzant will begin his duties on June 17.

Vinzant comes to Southern Miss after serving as Vice President for Finance and Administration at St. Cloud University in Minnesota. He takes over for Dr. Tom Estes, who has served in an interim capacity for the past year.
