Hattiesburg holds ceremony for new citizens of the United States

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- It was definitely a memorable day for 24 immigrants as they became United States citizens on Friday during a Naturalization Ceremony held at the Colmer Federal Building in Downtown Hattiesburg.

Hattiesburg City Council members will vote on a new waste water treatment system for the Hub City in late May.

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Hattiesburg City Council members are going the extra mile to make sure they make the right decision on a new waste water treatment system for the Hub City. In fact, three of them just flew hundreds of miles to research sewage systems in Georgia and Florida.

Local shop owners showcase Mother’s Day gifts

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Finding the perfect Mother’s Day present can be difficult, but there are two gifts local shop owners say you can’t ever go wrong with, flowers and jewelry.

"Ladies love flowers, they're just all so beautiful, and we've never met a lady that didn't like flowers,” said Bellevue Florist and Gift Shop owner, Thelma Lott. 

DREAM of Hattiesburg gets help in rebuilding library

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Dream of Hattiesburg is getting help in rebuilding their library that was lost when their resource center on Hutchinson Ave. was destroyed during the Feb. 10, tornado.

Not only did the organization lose their resource center, but also everything in it including their 1500 book library.

A local neighborhood volunteer group lead by Ward 4 Councilman Dave Ware, State Representative Toby Barker, and community leader Chris Price is donating 300 books to DREAM so they can continue to offer their tutoring programs in reading.

USM raising money to restore its original beauty

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- The University of Southern Mississippi held their Campus Beautification Day of Giving on Wednesday.

The 24-hour crowd funding day provides alumni, students, employees and friends the opportunity to prove the positive impact they can make in the wake of the devastation to the campus.

According to USM Foundation Manager of Annual Giving and Special Projects, Megan Burkes, the total price for restoring the campus is $3 million. 

Pine Belt groups awarded for taking heed to heart health

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- The American Heart Association awarded The Coca Cola Company, Forest General Hospital, William Carey University, Southern Miss, and The City of Hattiesburg for their efforts in making Mississippi a healthier place on Wednesday.

Forest General Hospital's Chief of Staff and Medical Staff Services Millie Swan says making healthy food choices and hitting the gym for at least 30 minutes a day is crucial in living a healthy lifestyle.
