Twenty-three pre-school age graduate from Children's Center

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Twenty-three pre-school age children at the Children's Center for Communication and Development walked the stage Friday to receive their diplomas.

Since 1974 the center has led Mississippi in early intervention services for pre-school age children with significant disabilities. Their program provides the necessary skills in language, cognitive and physical development, and emotional growth to prepare them to move to the next stage of their education.

The center currently serves 90 families from as many as 22 South Mississippi counties.

Dr. Dave Daves serves as Chair of the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at Southern Miss. Daves' Southern Miss office is adorned with shelves of books both tattered and new with titles ranging from "How to be a Single Parent" to "Math and the Mona Lisa' to "K-12 Teaching."

Thousands of MS students denied for graduation ceremonies

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Thousands of Mississippi seniors won't be graduating on time because they can't pass the history portion of the required state test, officials say. 

State gives students another chance to pass state test

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- High school seniors who were denied from graduation privileges resulting from poor state test scores now have a second chance.

Mississippi Department of Education stated Wednesday that students who passed all categories of the state test except one category can take an emergency retest.

Hollywood continues to come to Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- As the independent film, The Historian, continues on its third day of filming, the well-known Hollywood faces keep coming to Hattiesburg.

Iron Man 3 William Sadler, Falling Skies Colin Cunningham, and Ode to Billie Joe Glynnis O'Connor are now in the Hub City.

Though many might wonder what exactly is it that attracts the actors to this film.

"It was the writing,” said Sadler. “The writing was really good."

“The script was wonderful,” said Cunningham.

Fallen law officers remembered in Hattiesburg

A wreath was placed at a police officers' memorial Wednesday during an annual ceremony at the Vinson-Everett Police Complex.

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- The four Hattiesburg police officers who've been killed in the line of duty were remembered at an annual memorial service Wednesday morning.

A wreath was laid during a Peace Officers' Memorial Day ceremony at the Hattiesburg Police Department to honor Officer Jesse James Everette, Officer M.W. Vinson, Jr., Sergeant David Anthony and Sergeant Jackie Dole Sherrill.

The ceremony also included a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.
