HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- After a generation, William Carey University is closing its nursing school in New Orleans. A major drop in enrollment and a decrease in demand for nurses in the New Orleans area since Hurricane Katrina has prompted the move by school officials.
The university has offered a nursing program in the Crescent City for 35 years.
The school will remain open for another 18 months until all current students have graduated. And the university will still teach nursing in nearby Slidell.
