Lighthouse Dash raises funds for Petal Children's Task Force | News

PETAL, MS (WDAM)- Dozens of Pine Belt residents put on their running shoes and winter gloves Saturday morning to help an organization which assists children and families in the Petal School District. More than 120 people took part in the first Lighthouse Dash 5k Run and Walk.

It raised about $13,000 for the Petal Children's Task Force.

For 20 years, that organization has helped needy families with food, school supplies and school uniforms.

"We have a couple of events a year, a Thanksgiving event, a Christmas event," said Dee Dee Lowery, a member of the Board of Directors of the Petal Children's Task Force. "We have food boxes and toys and we help with utility assistance, medical care for these kids, just whatever the needs are, these families come to us," Lowery said.

About 1,600 families were helped by the Petal Children's Task Force last year.
