USM history professor Dr. Andrew Wiest speaks about technology in the Gulf War at the African-American Military History Museum Saturday.

HATTIESBURG (WDAM)- A Hattiesburg museum is paying special tribute in February to soldiers who served in the Gulf War more than 20 years ago. In recognition of Black History Month, the African-American Military History Museum is hosting a temporary exhibit on that conflict, with a special emphasis on the evolution of technology through war history.

Changing technology in the Gulf War was the focus of a lecture at the museum Saturday morning from Southern Miss professor of history Dr. Andrew Wiest. His was the first of four presentations that will take place in February honoring veterans of the Gulf War.

"It's important to honor soldiers of any war and the Gulf War has been kind of, in some ways, historically glossed over and almost forgotten, considering the wars that are still going on in that area today," said Wiest.

"It's just very important that we say thank you to each veteran that has served our country, especially during a time of conflict," said LaToya Norman, general manager of the African-American Military History Museum.

Each of the Gulf War presentations will take place Saturday mornings at 11 o'clock.
