HATTIESBURG (WDAM)- Some good hearted folks in Hattiesburg got a "souper" deal Thursday while helping out many of the less fortunate in our area. They enjoyed a great lunch at the Souper Bowl, which was a first-ever, football-themed fund raiser for the Salvation Army.
For a few bucks, dozens of people enjoyed soups and breads, prepared by some local restaurants.
They also had the chance to buy some handcrafted pottery and desserts from a gourmet shoppe.
"We have our shelter which is full every night, almost, and so we're raising funds to help support the meals that we cook over there for breakfast and for dinner every day, also for those clients who come into our offices or social services and are needing a bag of groceries to help them get them through," said Capt. Frances Gilliam, co-commander of the Hattiesburg Salvation Army.
14 local restaurants participated in the Souper Bowl.
