Pine Belt Young Professionals perform Day of Service | News
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Several members of the Pine Belt Young Professionals were at Town Square Park in Hattiesburg Monday morning to perform a Day of Service.
The organization raised around $1200 last September during their inaugural "Barbecause" to purchase supplies to spruce up the United Way's quarter mile Born Learning Trail at the park.
Monday the volunteers erected new learning signs and put a fresh coat of paint on benches and signs.
Born Learning Trails are located at parks, museums, and campuses around the country. The one in Hattiesburg has nine learning signs that teach young children pre-literacy skills critical to school readiness.
'"We just thought that this would be a great project to get our membership involved in," said Lee Anne Venable, PBYP Chair. "It's a real simple project, one that we can complete. It's a way to engage our members and give back to the community."
The Day of Service for the organization was held in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. day.
