HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Over 750 Pine Belt residents walked three miles early
Saturday morning on the Wesley Medical Center track and all for a good cause.

Walking to end Alzheimer's, residents supported and helped
the Alzheimer's Association raise over $50,000 in order to provide care,
support services and advancing critically-needed research for Alzheimer's
disease.

"It's more than a fundraising opportunity, it's an
experience for 750 residents of Hattiesburg to come together to share the
opportunity, bonding, care giving, raise funds and walk for the great cause," said
Director of the Walk to End Alzheimer's Jean Claire Monroe.

One of eight people in the state of Mississippi will have
Alzheimer's disease or currently have it.

"Alzheimer's disease is the sixth leading cause of death in
America, and it's the only one in the top ten that there's no prevention,
treatment, or cure," said Monroe.

Along
with raising $50,000, the Mississippi Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association
has raised a quarter of a million dollars just in 3 years and all thanks to
supporters.
