New policies alter Southern Pines animal surrender procedures
News

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Beginning Oct. 1, the Southern Pines Animal Shelter will institute new policy changes that will affect animal surrender procedures.

Animal surrender fees will differ depending on whether the county the person surrendering the animal lives in has signed a services contract with the shelter. The fee for residents in participating counties will remain $15. For residents from non-particiapting counties the fee will be $30.

The thirteen surrounding counties served by the shelter have been advised of the change in policy. Forrest and Lamar Counties, as well as Hattiesburg, Petal, and Collins and have agreed to sign a contract with the shelter.

Larger counties, such as Forrest and Jones, are asked to contribute $25,000 annually and the smaller counties $5,000.

The other change establishes a new appointment policy for animal surrender. Though the shelter will still take animals in without an appointment, those people who make an appointment will have first priority.

To make a surrender appointment contact the shelter at 601-544-6632.
