The ARC prepares for 8th annual golf ball drop | News
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- A hole-in-one could mean $20,000 in your pocket.
Monday is the Association for the Rights of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities 8th Annual Golf Ball Drop at Cane Brake Golf Club.
For almost a decade, ARC has sold 1,000 golf balls to raise funds for the association. The golf balls are numbered, placed in a container in a helicopter, then dropped from the helicopter into a designated hole in Canebrake's Golf Club.
The ball that goes into the hole, or closest to it is the winner of $20,000. Right now, ARC has only sold 470 balls, and they need to sell 1,000. The Vice President of the ARC's Board of Directors, Sandy Wright says the funds from the event goes toward programs which help families and children with developmental disabilities.
"It gives the handicap children opportunities to have peer opportunities in the community. The ARC takes them out bowling, skating, swimming. They get to go out into the community and do things they would not ordinarily get to do," said Wright.
The golf balls are $100 per ball. They can be purchased by going to www.hattiesburgarc.com or calling 601-268-9334. There will be a golf tournament, lunch, and catfish dinner to go along with the golf ball drop. Registration for the golf tournament will be at 1030 Monday morning at Canebrake.
