LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- Several Lamar County families displaced by a Thursday evening apartment complex fire are receiving temporary assistance from the American Red Cross. 11 people in four families are getting food and hotel assistance from that organization.
They were evacuated from the West End Village Apartments after a 6 p.m. blaze.
One apartment was damaged by the fire and three others had minor water damage.
Five of the evacuees have also gotten some clothing from the Red Cross.
"Single family fires make up the lion's share of our relief operations," said Chase Munro, Hattiesburg branch coordinator for the American Red Cross. "Any given day that there's a fire, we're there, offering immediate assistance to the families in need," Munro said.
That fire is still being investigated.
