HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Mississippi residents may want to be checking their fridges after a recall of hundreds of pounds of meat packaged at a Pine Belt facility.
Three hundred and fourteen pounds of Cedar Grove Red Hots sausages packaged at Hattiesburg's Enslin & Son Packing Company is being recalled because of potential Listeria contamination. The sausage was sold in 1.5 and 2 pound packages with use by dates of 09/24/12 or 09/28/12. The establishment number for the recalled sausages, which is located inside of the USDA mark of inspection, is "P-31806".
The products were shipped to Meridian and Philadelphia, Mississippi. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Listeria is serious infection often caused by eating bacteria contaminated food. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "the disease primarily affects older adults, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems." Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, confusion and loss of balance.
