The following is a press release from William Carey University:
Calico Antique Mall, located at 309 East Pine St., was named “Best Antiques in the Pine Belt 2012” by popular vote. The antique business has been a lifelong passion for Dorothy Brown, who has owned shops and dealt in antiques across the South since 1964. Prior to buying the Calico, Brown owned a three-story antique shop called The Antique Arcade, in Bay St. Louis, for 25 years. She sold the shop following Hurricane Katrina and moved to Hattiesburg in 2005 to run Calico.
Calico Mall has over 20 antique dealers actively searching for merchandise to offer customers, and selections include clothing, comic books, dolls, fine art, furniture, pottery, sports and advertising memorabilia, among other things. It was featured in the September 2011 issue of “AntiqueWeek” magazine, which specializes in antique auctions, shows and dealer information.
The series “Picked Off,” which is a spinoff of the production “American Pickers,” began on July 11, and will last for six weeks. Calico Mall appears in the fifth episode, along with a feature of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Gautier Antique Fair.
