HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Dozens of children at Sacred Heart High School are wrapping up a week of intensive, hands-on science activities as part of the school's annual Camp Invention.
The program helps elementary school students develop creativity and team-building skills. It's been offered at Sacred Heart for five years. This year's class is the largest ever, with 70 youngsters enrolled.
"They have to work as a team, which is an important skill for children," said Tiffany Bradford, camp director. "It's teaching them to use their creativity and think outside the box, and their imagination is awesome," Bradford said.
"I thought it was going to be where you learn about inventions, but you make your own inventions...it's really fun," said Anna Hocutt, a 10-year-old camper.
"This is actually my third time (at camp), so I kind of knew what to expect," said Garrett Bell, a 9-year-old camper. "It's a little different this year, it's getting better each year," he said.
Camp Invention is also offered in Petal and at Southern Miss.
