HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Dozens of students from the former segregated school system in Forrest County are back in Hattiesburg, renewing old friendships as part of a 9th biennial reunion. More than 250 people attended a banquet Saturday night for the FORDETRA organization. FORDETRA is an acronym for the old Forrest County Training School, the DePriest Consolidated School and the Earl Travillion Attendance Center.
Organization members have been in town this week, taking part in a memorial service, a talent show, a parade and a gathering at Sullivan Park in Palmer's Crossing.
"This thing is so important for us to get together, have fun, eat together and just reminisce," said Kerry Fielder, president and CEO of FORDETRA.
The reunion concludes with a church service Sunday morning.
