City Council schedules additional public hearing on redistricting

The following is a press release from the City of Hattiesburg:

City Council will hold an additional public hearing on redistricting, June 28, at C.E. Roy Community Center, 300 East 5th St.

The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. and will include a period for public comment.  Public hearings already have been held at Jackie Dole Community Center, University Baptist Church and Danny Hinton Community Center.

To date, four redistricting plans have been proposed and discussed. The City Council will vote to select one of the plans at its regular meeting, July 3, at City Hall, 200 Forrest Street.  The time for that meeting has been changed from 4:30 p.m. to 11 a.m.

All four plans are available for public viewing at City Hall, as well as on the City’s website, www.hattiesburgms.com, and on Facebook. Beginning Monday, they also will be displayed at C.E. Roy Community Center, 300 5th Street, and the Library of Hattiesburg, Petal and Forrest County, 329 Hardy Street. Citizens can request emailed copies of the proposed plans at council@hattiesburgms.com.

Comments on the plans can be emailed to council@hattiesburgms.com or can be mailed to the City Council, P.O. Box 1898, Hattiesburg, MS   39403.
