HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- More than 200 high school seniors from across Mississippi will arrive on the Southern Miss campus Sunday to take part in a week's worth of political activities for Girls State.
It's sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and it gives the girls a chance to learn about how American government works.
They'll take part in political campaigns and enact legislation for their state of "Magnolia."
They'll also hear from elected officials such as Attorney General Jim Hood and State Treasurer Lynn Fitch.
