Hawkins Elementary participates in Global Youth Service Day | News
HATTIESBURG, MS - Some elementary school students in Hattiesburg learned about serving their communities as part of a nationwide event called Global Youth Service Day.
Dozens of third and fourth grade students at Hawkins Elementary School are among those who took part in several fun and educational games Friday morning designed to show the importance of community service and living a healthy lifestyle.
The Americorps organization coordinated the activities.
"What we've done is we've empowered our third and fourth graders to serve...we have a culture of service here at Hawkins," said Sharon Miles, site supervisor for Americorps.
The activity stations for Friday's event focused on three areas...the mind, body and spirit.
