Vanderbilt Genetics Specialist to speak at WCU

The following is a press release from William Carey University:

Dr. Rizwan Hamid, associate professor of pediatrics and cancer genetics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., will speak at the William Carey Collegium on Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. in the Kresge Room of Thomas Business Building. Dr. Hamid will present a talk titled, “The Impending Genetic Revolution and How It Will Change Your Life.”  The Carey Collegium is sponsored by the Mississippi Beta Chapter of Alpha Chi National College Honor Society, an organization for students who have achieved top academic honors.

Dr. Hamid graduated with his PhD in microbiology and immunology from Vanderbilt University in 1994. After graduation, he received a postdoctoral fellowship and completed a clinical fellowship in medical genetics at Vanderbilt, as well. Dr. Hamid completed his residency in pediatrics at Jackson Memorial Hospital at the University of Miami before returning to Nashville. He is certified in clinical genetics and in pediatrics, and is a practicing physician at the Genetics Clinic of Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital General. He is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics, American College of Medical Genetics, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Medical Association.

The collegium is free and open to the public.
