1st Annual Souper Bowl Tickets Available | Events
The following is a press release from The Salvation Army:
This year marks the first annual Souper Bowl hosted by the Hattiesburg Salvation Army. The mission of Souper Bowl is to bring Hunger Awareness to everyone in our community.
We hope to raise as much money as possible to feed hungry people that come through our Emergency Shelter and Social Services. The event will be held on Jan. 31 at The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club Gymnasium at 5670 US Hwy 49.
Tickets for the event are $15, doors will be open from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. This will allow guests to come in as they please during their lunch hour to enjoy beverages, savory soups & fresh breads prepared and generously donated by area restaurants and bakeries. There will also be a Gourmet Shoppe and the chance to buy local pottery made by local artists in our area.
Tickets will also be available at the door for $15. The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter and Social Services has seen a huge increase in the demand for food assistance and shelter within the past year. Our hope is to raise awareness about area hunger and that with everyone’s help we can make a difference to end area hunger- one bowl at a time.
The Salvation Army, an evangelical part of the universal Christian church, has been supporting those in need in His name without discrimination since 1865.
Nearly 33 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.
About 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support those services in nearly 9,000 communities nationwide. For more information about the programs in Hattiesburg , go to http://www.salvationarmyhattiesburg.org. The Salvation Army is a participating agency of United Way of Southeast Mississippi.
