Southern Miss looks to increase recycling efforts at home football games | Events

The Student Government Association and the Office of Sustainability at The University of Southern Mississippi have partnered on an initiative to raise awareness about the importance of recycling by providing additional receptacles at home football games.
But the effort doesn’t stop there. More than 80 students also will be canvassing the west side stands at M.M. Roberts Stadium during halftime of Saturday’s game against Louisville to collect recyclable items. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
“This is the first time anyone can remember SGA doing something like this,” said SGA vice-president Allie Solomon. “We are calling this our ‘halftime sweep.’ We’ll have volunteers going through the stands with two bags – one for food and other types of trash and a blue bag for items that can be recycled.”
