The following is a press release from the Hattiesburg Zoo:
Local Girls Scout Troop #3008 recently donated $500 to the Hattiesburg Zoo for the purchase of a new animal – the Black Currasow, a large bird that is native to South America.
“The enthusiasm and contribution by Girl Scout Troup #3008 is a great encouragement to all of us at the Zoo. Their investment shows that the Zoo is truly a community project with many opportunities for all to help grow this very unique attraction in Hattiesburg,” said Rick Taylor, Executive Director of the Hattiesburg Tourism and Convention Commissions.
Following the annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale, the troop wanted to do something significant with their proceeds and the Hattiesburg Zoo is a common favorite among the girls, who range in age from five to ten years old.
The Hattiesburg Zoo is a Hattiesburg Convention Commission Facility, in partnership with the City of Hattiesburg and the Hattiesburg Tourism Commission. Since 1991, the Hattiesburg Convention Commission has been developing and operating tourism-related facilities for the Hattiesburg area.
