DuBard’s Martin named President-Elect of State Organization

Dr. Maureen Martin, director of The University of Southern Mississippi’s DuBard School for Language Disorders, has been elected president-elect of the Mississippi Speech-Language-Hearing Association for 2012. She will serve as president of MSHA in 2013.

MSHA serves speech-language pathologists and audiologists in Mississippi by encouraging study and research in both fields, promoting high standards of qualifications and ethical practices, and supporting speech and hearing services in the state.

Southern Miss to hold annual Founder's Day Ceremony on March 30

The University of Southern Mississippi will mark the 102nd anniversary of its legislative founding March 30 when it holds Founders’ Day ceremonies and events on the Hattiesburg and Gulf Coast campuses and teaching sites. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members are invited to attend, with a webcast of events from the Hattiesburg campus available for viewing.

Petal High teacher sentenced for sex with student

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Former Petal High School teacher Jennifer McCullum plead guilty Tuesday afternoon to charges of having sex with a 17-year-old students.

McCullum stood before Judge Robert Helfrich in 12th District court about 1:35 p.m. pleading guilty to sexual battery upon a child - one of her 17-year-old male students. That is having intercourse with a minor while in a position of authority.

Court documents report that the incidents occurred between November 1, 2009 and January 13, 2010.

Turtle Creek Mall to start renovations this month

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Later this month Turtle Creek Mall will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation. According to manager, Bryan LeBlanc, the interior landscape will be updated, the mall will receive energy-efficient lighting, remodeled floors and a new food court layout. LeBlanc says the owner of the mall, CBL & Associates, sees the renderings as an investment.
